Built in 1989 in Mystic, Ct, where the legendary Hickman Sea Sleds originated, she survives to prove the legend is true. Clearly the source of the Boston Whaler cathedral hull, (Nothing Is New...), the Hickman's were as ahead of their time as Herreshoff's catamarans were back in the day.
This marvelous example was launched in 1989, sea-trialed to meet expectations, and has been in secure storage ever since.
We launched her the summer of 2014 to make sure all was well. She behaved splendidly and is now back in storage, awaiting an adventurous owner with a will to re-live history.

The hull is framed in mahogany and planked with two diagonal layers of 1/4" void-free marine plywood laid in WEST SYSTEM Epoxy.
The bottom was then layered with two protective coats of fiberglass cloth, the topsides with one.
The decks are laid teak over plywood, varnished to perfection with ten coats.
Interior joinerwork is of mahogany and to high standards of finish. Upholstery is tufted red naugahyde..
The Hickman design collection is now held by the Mystic Seaport Museum. At the time of conception of this project, the plans were held by Lester Arnold of Groton, whose father had worked for Hickman and had had the foresight to save the collection of detailed drawings.
With Lester's help, plans for a 1926 model, 26 footer were chosen. As it was rated for 200 hp,, a decision was made to scale the build up to 33' to allow for twin 454 Crusaders, which are presently installed and power Arneson Drive surface propellers.
